Hundreds enjoy 15th annual Daryle Unger & Peanut Memorial Kids Fishing Derby

A total of 266 young people participated in the 15th annual Daryle Unger & Peanut Memorial Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, June 4 at Mitchell Park in Greenfield.
Jim Jones, who has coordinated the fishing derby throughout its history, said he was very happy with the turnout.
"We had 266 kids from ages 2-18 and we gave out many prizes and gifts," Jones said. "It was a really great day."
The annual event is free and includes three different age groups.
The first derby was held in 2001, the year that Daryle Unger passed away.
"Daryle had done so much for the community, and he loved kids," said Jones, who created the fishing derby as a way to honor Unger.
The annual fishing derby is completely funded by individual and business donations.
All the participants receive prizes.
“Because of the great generosity of the people and businesses of this community, we are able to provide these prizes to every kid,” Jones said.
