Hillsboro police station remodeled
The Hillsboro police station on West Walnut Street is undergoing renovations that, according to Police Chief Todd Whited, will make the department more efficient.
"In the past year, we have been looking at ways to make things better and more efficient at the police department. When the building was remodeled, an area was created for an administrative assistant. This space has not been utilized as it was intended," Whited said this week.

"I also felt that the communications area was a little small for all of the tasks that they perform and equipment that is utilized."
The chief said another issue concerning the patrol officers was the absence of an adequate location to process evidence prior to storing it in the evidence room.
"Upon examining the use and layout of the building, we felt that the removal of a few walls would prove beneficial," Whited said. "On Tuesday, Feb. 10, we began removing some of the walls.
"There will be little cost associated with this project due to it being mostly removal of materials. We will add a counter/desk area where there is sufficient room to process evidence as well as extend the dispatch center to add space for the various computers and monitors."
The police department was relocated to its present location in 2009.
