A Hillsboro man is facing multiple charges following a Christmas Eve arrest.

The Hillsboro Police Department reports that Jason L. Simon, 36, was charged with theft, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic violations.

The department had received a call from Kmart in reference to an alleged shoplifter at approximately 4:42 p.m. Dec. 24.

Upon arrival, an officer witnessed a suspect driving through the Kmart parking lot at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued. The suspect pulled over east of Selph Road and fled on foot.

He was apprehended by Hillsboro police. The stolen items were recovered, the HPD said.

Simon is scheduled for a Dec. 27 arraignment in Hillsboro Municipal Court.[[In-content Ad]]
