The seventh annual Hillsboro High School Athletic Boosters Gala is set for Saturday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the HHS cafetorium.

The theme for this year's gala is "Run for the Roses," said Hillsboro Athletic Boosters treasurer Sandy Shoemaker.

"We're going to be decorating like the Kentucky Derby," Shoemaker said. "It'll be a blast."

For this year's event, there are 300 tickets being sold at $100 per ticket, with one grand prize winner of $10,000 possible.

"Everybody who comes gets a prize," Shoemaker said.

Guest tickets, which are $25 and include entrance and dinner, are also available for purchase by those buying a $100 ticket.

According to Shoemaker, some tickets are still available and may be purchased by calling Shoemaker at (937) 763-0012, any HHS Athletic Boosters member or the school's athletic department.

Shoemaker credited Highland County businesses and individuals with making the event a success, thanks to their generous contributions before the event even begins.

"The main thing is the community has given donations for the prizes," Shoemaker said. "We appreciate their help."

Shoemaker said that the gala raises over $10,000 each year for the HHS athletic department. Proceeds from this year's event will go toward the school's latest project: a track to be built near the high school and middle school.

As reported in The Highland County Press, the Hillsboro School Board voted March 21 "to approve $200,000 of permanent improvement funds to be earmarked for the construction of a new track facility."

"This [gala] is how we're going to support our new track facility," Shoemaker said. "The Boosters will make enough money to equip it in the next seven years.

"Equipping the track/soccer complex has been our goal from the beginning, and it continues to be our priority."
