Highland District Hospital hosts annual Brake for Breakfast

More than 500 women drove through the Brake for Breakfast event at Highland District Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 7.
Participants received a free continental breakfast to go, including a giant bagel from Kroger of Hillsboro. Greeted by members of the Imaging Center and Cancer Care Services, participants received educational information about breast cancer, and give-aways in a pink gift bag, according to Misty Campbell, mammographer at the hospital’s Imaging Center.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is a little less than 1 in 8. Over 232,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2015, according to the American Cancer Society.
The HDH staff would like to thank the women who took a moment to drive through and participate in the event. We are proud to partner with them to become “one less” breast cancer statistic.
The Imaging Center staff would like to remind women that a screening mammogram can be scheduled, without a physician’s referral, by patients who are 35 years of age or older. Women must be symptom free, not pregnant or breast feeding. Appointments can be made by calling the Imaging Center at 937.393.MAMMO (6266). Women with symptoms will need a physician referral for a diagnostic mammogram.
For women over the age of 40, with limited insurance coverage, Highland District Hospital and the Highland County Health Department are working together to offer free screening mammograms to Highland County residents.

These are no-cost mammograms. Mammograms will be done at Highland District Hospital using the state of the art digital mammography unit.

November 7 (Saturday)
March 11 (Friday)
March 12 (Saturday)
Pre-registration is required at least one week prior to each event. Financial counseling, insurance advice and coordination, and resources from the Free Store Food Bank are also available during each clinic.
Please remember, these are screening exams. If you are concerned about an existing breast lump or other issue, you may need to have a more detailed diagnostic screening. A staff member will be available to determine if you need to need a diagnostic screening.
