Highland County YMCA celebrates grand re-opening
Local business leaders and elected officials, along with YMCA board members and employees, celebrated the grand re-opening of the Highland County YMCA on Thursday evening.
As previously reported in The Highland County Press, the Highland County YMCA officially partnered with the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati last fall, after the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati provided operating management for a year and a half. The facility, which opened in 2003, has undergone several upgrades and renovations since joining the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati.
After opening remarks from YMCA staff and board members and Highland County Chamber of Commerce president Melissa Elmore, the Chamber conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with local politicians joining the YMCA representatives to celebrate the event.
Elmore called the YMCA a “vital asset” to the community.
“It was a huge benefit to my family personally when my son was able to come here and do water therapy after a very serious break,” Elmore said. “That’s just one small piece of how it’s touched my life.”
Debra Jones, chair of the Highland County YMCA board, introduced members of the board, along with county and city elected officials and representatives of state elected officials who attended the event.
Highland County YMCA Director Kellie Kiser thanked the community for their support and for attending Thursday night’s event.

Kiser also announced to the crowd that in honor of the facility’s grand re-opening, a membership special is being offered through Feb. 14. Any members joining from Feb. 4-14 will get their first month of membership free. This offer is also valid at the Clermont County YMCA.
YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Chief Operations Officer Myrita Craig praised the facility and its staff and volunteers.
“Hillsboro is a phenomenal place,” Craig said. “This building is an unbelievable resource and a beautiful building. Most of all, we have enjoyed getting to know the people, because the people of Hillsboro are just outstanding, and the leaders here made the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati coming together with the Highland County YMCA such a success.
“Great leaders make great things happen, and this coming together of the Highland County and Greater Cincinnati Y has been a great opportunity. They assure me the best is yet to come.”
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the YMCA hosted tours to showcase renovations to the facility.
The Highland County YMCA is located at 201 Diamond Drive in Hillsboro. Its features include a basketball court, cycling studio, fitness center, indoor pool, indoor walking and running track and sauna. Programs offered include Zumba/cardio dance, yoga, cycling, Pilates, boot camp/interval training, water fitness and youth sports.
