Highland County unemployment rate at 11.7 percent

Highland County saw a slight decrease in unemployment numbers during the month of October, with the jobless rate falling to 11.7 percent. Highland County also moved from the county with the fifth highest unemployment rate to the sixth, with Scioto County moving into the top five in unemployment numbers.

   Highland County's September unemployment rate was at 11.9 percent. In August, it was listed at 12.3 percent, and in July it was at 13.1 percent.

   Counties in Ohio's 86th District - Highland, Clinton and Pike - remain in the top six spots. Pike County has the highest unemployment in the state at 15 percent, followed by Meigs County at 12.6 percent, Clinton County at 12.3 percent, Scioto County at 12.2 percent, and Adams County at 11.9 percent.

   In other area counties, Brown County was ranked at 10.4 percent, Ross County at 9.8 percent and Fayette County was at 8.7 percent. '
