Highland County Special Olympics Day Sept. 20

Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 20 as Highland County Special Olympics Day during their Sept. 10 board meeting at the Highland County Administration Building.
This year's event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at Hills and Dales Training Center, U.S. 50 east, Hillsboro.
Nathan Boatman, lead support specialist and Special Olympics coordinator for the Highland County Board of DD and Hills and Dales Training Center, along with Mendy Hamilton, Hillsboro City Schools Special Education Director, HCS Superintendent Jim Smith, Hillsboro High School Principal Jason Snively and several student-athletes were present for the proclamation.

The Highland County Special Olympics track and field competitions will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Hills and Dales Training Center at 8919 U.S. 50 east of Hillsboro.
According to Boatman, KFC and Holtfield Station are partnering to provide lunches for approximately 150 student-athletes, coaches and volunteers.
"It's really a great event with lots of fun and enthusiasm," Wilkin said of the annual Special Olympics.
Student-athletes for Hills and Dales Training Center, Bright Local, Fairfield, Lynchburg-Clay and Hillsboro City Schools will be competing.
The community is invited to attend.
