Highland County Sheriff's Office investigating alleged homicide

Highland County Sheriff’s detectives are currently investigating an alleged homicide on Flat Run Rd. in Jackson Township in southern Highland County.

On Sunday, Aug. 12 at 12:47 p.m., the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer call from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office from a female reporting an unresponsive child at 897 Flat Run Rd. in Jackson Township. Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, were dispatched to the scene where upon arrival they found a 5-year-old female in the garage of the residence deceased.

Initial investigation found that the child was a victim of an apparent criminal act.

The scene was secured by deputies, and the Highland County Coroner's Office was notified, as well as Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins.

Crime scene agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are responding to the scene to assist Highland County Sheriff’s detectives in processing the crime scene and several witnesses are being interviewed.

Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward and Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins have scheduled a news conference on Monday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at 130 Homestead Ave, Hillsboro.
