Highland County jobless rate holds at 14.4 percent

Highland County's unemployment rate is holding at 14.4 percent for the second month in a row. 
Ranked with the second highest rate in the state, behind Clinton County at 15.8 percent, Highland County's jobless rate had been on decline in recent months, but according to numbers released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services for the month of October, the number is holding steady. 
Pike County ranks third in the state, with an unemployment rate of 14.3, which again places the three counties that comprise Ohio's 86th District with the top three highest county unemployment rates in the state. 
Last week it was reported in The Highland County Press that Ohio's overall unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in October, down slightly from 10.0 percent in September, according to data released by the ODJFS. Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 8,400 over the month, from the revised 5,014,500 in September to 5,022,900 in October.
In surrounding counties for the month of October, the unemployment rate in Adams County was 12.8 percent; 10.8 percent in Ross County; 10.5 percent in Brown County; and 10.4 percent in Fayette County.
