Members of the Highland County Honor Guard conducted a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, June 14, at Amvets Post 61 on North Shore Drive, Rocky Fork Lake.

The community was encouraged to bring old flags, with members of the Honor Guard ceremonially retiring the flags.

Flag Day is also the U.S. Army’s birthday, with 2024 marking the 249th anniversary of the Army. The Sons of the American Revolution Highlanders Chapter presented certificates in honor of both the flag retirement and the Army’s birthday.
