Highland County Historical Society filming integration story

On Friday, May 27, award-winning Cincinnati documentary filmmaker Andrea Torrice was at the Highland House Museum to interview nearly 100-year-old Mrs. Elsie Young. 

Mrs. Young was one of five African American mothers who filed a lawsuit to pursue the integration of Hillsboro Elementary School during the mid-1950s.

A committee from the Highland County Historical Society, filmmaker Andrea Torrice and author Susan Banyas are developing an exhibit for the Highland House Museum on this subject.

Like Mother Eliza Jane Thompson and the women of Highland County prior to Prohibition, these mothers used civil disobedience to change history.
