HDH sees record attendance at 2015 Health Fair
On Saturday, April 11, Highland District Hospital saw 1,019 people within four hours at their annual Health Fair.
The biggest draw for participants was the $20 blood screening, which includes glucose, kidney function, lipid panel (cholesterol), and PSA (prostate test for men over the age of 50). Other services provided by local healthcare professionals include optometry, and massage therapy.

Highland District Hospital offers many programs and services that are designed to meet the needs of our community.
One of the largest efforts to assess, monitor and meet the community’s needs is the Highland District Hospital Health Fair. The first Health Fair was held in 2002, with 183 people attending.
Since that time, the event has grown into a much anticipated day of health screenings, offered for a nominal fee.
“The lasting impact to the community is by providing those with abnormal findings with education and referring them to the appropriate healthcare provider," said event coordinator Melanie Phillips.
"With the lab findings, we are better able to target these areas of need with services, programs and education; thereby, improving the health of individuals within the Highland County community. The identification and early detection of health risks, in addition to education provided throughout the day of the Health Fair, addressed the health disparities within Highland County, and guided (and continues to guide) our citizens to live healthier and longer lives.”
The event is made possible by the 122 HDH employees who volunteer their time, as well as the HDH Foundation for their financial support.
