Hays Court dedication Aug. 23 in Greenfield; free ice cream, live music for attendees

In a place where a downtown building once stood, and nestled in between two others, is a space for those in Greenfield to sit a spell and take in the comings and goings of the downtown while they eat a bite from a local eatery, perhaps.
Its Hays Court, and the public is invited to its dedication on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. This dedication will include an ice cream social – thank you Phil and Margie Free for the ice cream – and live entertainment provided by local band Dumbfounded.
The dedication ceremony will begin with a proclamation recognizing Pat and Elaine Hays for their contributions to the Greenfield community – not just with Hays Court – but through the years.
Furniture for Hays Court was donated by the Greenfield Rotary Club, of which Pat Hays has been a member for more than 40 years. Rotarians, along with the McClain Cadet Corps and members of the Hays family, all gathered together to assemble the furniture, said Rotary President Quincey Gray.
Hays Court has served the last two years as the home of the Greenfield Rotary Club’s annual auction, which is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year and supports the club’s numerous service projects to benefit the community.
Pat Hays said he and his wife have envisioned Hays Court as a place to take a rest, a gathering place, and even possibly a place for bands to set up for some live entertainment.
“Elaine and I are happy to do it,” Pat Hays said of Hays Court. “Greenfield is home. This is a way to give back to this place that has given so much to me.”
Hays Court is located at 323 Jefferson St. in downtown Greenfield. The community is welcome to join in on the dedication of the new space on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. with free ice cream and live entertainment.
