Greenfield firefighters battle structure fire

Firefighters with Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS battled a structure fire in the 700 block of Fifth Street into early Sunday morning. 

According to fire Chief Bradley George, the department received a call of a structure fire in a vacant home at approximately 10:42 p.m. Upon arrival to the scene it was determined that the fire had originated in the attic.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue and the Leesburg North Joint Fire District responded to mutual aid. Approximately 23 firefighters responded to the scene. They were on the scene until 12:15 a.m.

George said the fire is believed to have originated from electrical issues, and is not considered suspicious. He estimated damages to the roof of the home to be approximately $15,000. 

No injuries were reported.
