Grain Bin Rescue Team rescues juvenile trapped in grain trailer

The Highland County North Joint Fire & Ambulance District and the Highland County Grain Bin Team were dispatched to Monroe Road Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:47 p.m. for a report of a male juvenile stuck in a grain trailer.

Upon arrival, crews found the male subject up to his neck in grain. He was able to speak with the crew members. Mutual aid was requested from Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, Lynchburg Area Joint Fire & Ambulance District, Highland County, Ohio Emergency Management Agency, Fayetteville Fire and EMS, Highland County Sheriff Office, MedFlight and our greatest asset, the local farmers.

Crews worked together to get the patient extricated utilizing GSI Res-Q-Tube panels, JPZ rescue Auger and multiple grain scoops. A local farmer brought a Grain Vac System, which greatly enhanced the rescue operations.

The patient was successfully extricated at 7:18 p.m., and he was conscious and alert. MedFlight transported the patient to OSU for further evaluation.
