Governor-elect Kasich Appoints Colonel Deborah Ashenhurst to be Ohio Adjutant General

COLUMBUS -­ Governor-elect John Kasich on Wednesday appointed Colonel Deborah Ashenhurst to be Ohio Adjutant General In this capacity, Col. Ashenhurst will lead the 18,000 soldiers and personnel who make up the Ohio National Guard.  



Since enlisting in the Ohio Army National Guard in 1978, Col. Ashenhust has devoted 32 years to the Guard.

She is the current commander of the 73rd Troop Command which was recently designated as a Homeland Response Force, one of two such force structures created nationally, and tasked with responding to a biological, chemical or nuclear attack in any U.S. state east of the Mississippi River. 



Col. Ashenhurst¹s military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Ohio Distinguished Service Medal, and the Ohio Commendation Medal. 



Gov.-elect Kasich announced the appointment today at a press conference in Colonel Ashenhurst¹s hometown of Hilliard in Franklin County.
