Good Labor Day crowd at 2014 Highland County Fair

The 2014 Highland County Fair is in full swing this week and even a heavy downpour on Labor Day morning did not dampen the spirits of fair-goers and participants.
After the rains moved out, a good crowd was in attendance Monday, which was Veterans Day and Senior Citizens Day.
Fair Board members and volunteers were busy helping with visitor parking, especially in some rain-soaked, low-lying areas.
Among the many Labor Day happenings were showmanship classes, animal weigh-ins, skillathons and many other popular events.
In addition, the midway rides and attractions were open again Monday afternoon, following a brief closure around mid-morning.

Among this evening's events are the county barrow show at 6 p.m. and the pedal tractor pull at 7 p.m.
The Demolition Derby will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. A tractor pull will be held at Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., with SuperStock, ProStock and Economy Modified Speed Pulls at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. Limited Light Pro Stock Class, Modified Tractor Speed and Modified and Open 2 and 4 Wheel Drive Truck Pulls will be held Saturday, Sept 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Earlier in the week, Kaylee Achor was announced as this year's Highland County Junior Fair Queen. Courtney Cummings, Kylie Douglas, Cheyanne Miller and Natalie Stanley were honored as the attendants.
County Director of 4-H Youth Development Educator Kathy Bruynis also said this year that the Ohio State University Extension is celebrating 100 Years of Extension in 2014.
Highland County Extension is the outreach research arm of the Ohio State University. In 1916, Extension began in Highland County with J.P. Hershberger as the first Extension Agent. In the beginning the Extension Office shared space with Farm Bureau. By 1936, the office became independent and move to 120 West Main Street, Hillsboro. The office is currently located at 119 Governor Foraker Place in Hillsboro.
Early on, Extension recognized that Highland County’s future begins with assisting and educating the youth. The youth development program, commonly known as 4-H, remains a vital part of OSU Extension, Highland County today.
On Thursday, Sept. 4, The Taylors, a brother-sister Southern Gospel quartet, will perform at 7 p.m. According to their website, thetaylorsmusic.com, the award-winning quartet "have had nine radio singles to chart in the Singing News Top 80 Gospel Chart, three singles in the Top 40 and two singles in the Top 20."
The Taylors' latest album, "Measure of Grace," was released in June.
Following The Taylors' show, gospel singer/songwriter Joseph Habedank will perform at 8 p.m.
The Highland County Fair continues through Saturday, Sept. 6.
