A new store on state Route 73 offers "a place of serenity" for customers to get back to nature, learn about herbs and plants and enjoy a variety of local foods, art and crafts.

Kelly LeVangie opened Naturally By Nature April 4 after 15 years of dreaming about opening her own shop.

LeVangie, who is originally from Clarksville, has worked for Bridgewood Secret Garden and Greenhouse for several years and fell in love with the area.

LeVangie initially had the idea to use the open field in front of the shop for a farmers market, but when the store's former tenant left, she jumped at the opportunity to open her own store.

LeVangie describes Naturally By Nature as "a place of serenity with the babbling creek behind it that welcomes anyone to visit, a place of appreciation for the gifts of nature and an outlet for the many talented artisans to show off their ability."

"It's about getting back in touch with nature and rewarding people for their creativity," LeVangie said.

Among the many products sold at Naturally by Nature are local maple syrup and honey, seasonal local produce, fresh eggs, herbal teas and organic coffee. New salves and scrubs will be added to the shop soon, and a variety of handcrafted items are offered, including wreaths, outdoor decor and homemade hats.

"Art is a deep thread in my family," LeVangie said. "I wanted to provide an outlet for other peoples with the same passion."

In keeping with the original plan, Naturally By Nature hosts a farmers market on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

"Anyone is welcome to sell their produce, baked goods and crafts," LeVangie said. "Even musicians are welcome."

A "holistic healing room" is also being constructed inside the store for crystal therapy and Reiki.

Classes are offered biweekly on Sundays at 1 p.m. with information on herbs, supplements and other natural topics. The next class, which will be focused on herbs, will be offered June 22.

LeVangie said that the store will be open year-round, and she hopes to eventually host seasonal festivals and sell Christmas trees.

Naturally By Nature is located at 8249 state Route 73 (north) and is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more information, call (937) 661-6049.
