FBI searches Swalwell's home, seizes his devices at airport

More developments have been reported as the FBI investigates former U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-San Francisco Bay Area.

The White House on Friday referred The Center Square to the FBI, and the FBI declined to comment. However, it has been widely reported by the media that federal authorities took multiple electronic devices from Swalwell on Saturday at San Francisco International Airport and executed a search warrant Sunday at his residence in Washington, D.C.

A federal court filing in the Northern District of California identified the seized items as an Apple iPhone and an Apple MacBook Pro.

No charges have been announced against Swalwell.

The news comes four months after Swalwell resigned from Congress over the sexual misconduct allegations.

Swalwell dropped out of California's gubernatorial race, in which he was regarded as a frontrunner. A former member of Swalwell's staff told the San Francisco Chronicle that the congressman sexually assaulted her. Three more women accused Swalwell of making sexual advances and sending explicit photos.

"I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past," Swalwell wrote in a statement. "I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility for the mistakes I did make."

Earlier this week, the White House released nearly 100 pages of what it called declassified records involving an FBI counterintelligence probe into Swalwell’s interactions with a woman authorities believe may be a foreign intelligence operative.
