Farm program signup under way

Highland County Farmers have until June 1 to enroll their farms into the 2011 Direct and Counter Cyclical Payment Program (DCP) according to Jim Patton, director of the Highland County Farm Service Agency (FSA).

The DCP program was authorized under the 2008 Farm bill and runs through Sept. 30, 2012. Under the DCP program, direct farm payments are calculated using the corn, soybean, and wheat base acreage established for each individual farm.

Payments are limited to only those who share in the risk of production. Producers can request 22 percent of the direct payment in advance with the final payment to be issued this October.

Producers are asked to contact the county office for an appointment to complete their 2011 farm program signup. Call 393-1921 for more information.[[In-content Ad]]
