Family of Army SPC Justin Helton honored at Statehouse Military Medal of Distinction Ceremony

Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) announced Thursday that the Ohio House of Representatives, in a joint session with the Ohio Senate, presented the Ohio Military Medal of Distinction to the family of US Army Specialist Justin R. Helton, a native of Beaver in Pike County.
The Medal of Distinction recognizes members of the armed forces who have died while serving their country. In June 2014, Helton was killed in Afghanistan during a firefight with Taliban insurgents.
The son of Wendall and Sandra Helton, Helton had served in the Army since 2010 and was based out of Fort Bragg, N.C. He was 25 years old.
The Medal of Distinction was first created through Senate Bill 248 during the 127th General Assembly. Along with Speaker Rosenberger (R-Clarksville), Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina), Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor and Col. Andrew Aquino, State Chaplain from the Ohio Army National Guard, offered remarks during the ceremony.
