It is hard to believe that another edition of the Highland County Fair is under way this weekend.
A year’s worth of work and planning by countless volunteers is about to become a reality.  Junior fair members and their families have been working hard on their projects for evaluation at the fair. I’m sure these efforts will result in a typically outstanding Highland County fair that the community will be proud of.
Junior Fair Sales
Those individuals with junior fair livestock projects look forward to the opportunity to sell their projects at one of the Junior Fair Livestock Sales at this year’s Highland County Fair. The Highland County Junior Fair Sales Committee sponsors these events at the fair.  Here is a summary of this year’s sales schedule:
* Wednesday, September 8 at 6:00 PM: Market Barrow and Market Goat
Sale, Livestock Show Arena
* Thursday, September 9 at 1:00 PM: Poultry Meat Pen and Single Fryer
Rabbit Sale, Rabbit and Poultry Barn
* Friday, September 10 at 6:00 PM, Market Steer, Feeder Calf, Market
Lamb and Butter Sale, Livestock Show Arena
The local business community has traditionally given strong support to these youth sales and I am sure that this year will be no exception.  If you have not been previously involved in the junior fair sales and would like more information on how to participate, please call the Highland County Junior Fair Sales Committee at 937-840-9479.
Extension Office Informational Meeting
The Advisory Committee for OSU Extension – Highland County will be hosting an informational meeting at the Highland County Fair concerning future operational plans for the Extension office. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 starting at 5:15 p.m. at the Livestock Show Arena before the Junior Fair Market Hog and Market Goat sales.
Representatives of the Extension Advisory Committee and supporters will discuss the current status of the Extension office and efforts that are taking place to help insure continued operation of the Extension program for 2011 and beyond.  Numerous meetings have taken place involving Advisory Committee members, Extension supporters, the Highland County Commissioners, and OSU Extension administration.  Results of these meetings will be discussed at this gathering.
The public is invited to attend and learn more about the future of Extension in Highland County.
