Excellence Celebrated at SHCTC
Students at Southern Hills Career & Technical Center were honored for their achievements at Awards Day on May 24. “You Can Go Anywhere from Here” is the school motto emphasized daily to remind students they are to work hard in their studies, make good grades and have exemplary attendance records. These skills will spill over into their adult lives as they choose to either go into the work force, on to college with skills that will afford them an opportunity to work their way through with a good paying job, into the military, or a combination of all these goals.
The Award of Merit goes to the top career tech student in each program. The Rising Sun represents a student who has made great strides, is most improved, or has been a constant good example. The High Academic Award goes to the student with the highest average for the year in each class; the Shooting Star is the student who has made the greatest improvement; the Rock Solid is the student who exhibited a consistent work ethic, grades and attitude for the academic year. The High Achievement award goes to a student who has overcome incredible obstacles. This year, it was renamed the Zach Shaffer High Achievement in honor of the recipient for showing incredible perseverance in his ongoing battle against cancer. The Principal’s Leadership Award is given to the student leaders who demonstrate strength of character and qualities that would make them an exemplary employee. Finally, there is a drawing for a car. Students earn tickets their junior and senior years weekly for perfect attendance and behavior. The following awards were presented during this year’s Awards’ Day:
