Emma Yochum elected as vice president of American Junior Maine-Anjou Association Board of Directors

American Junior Maine-Anjou Association (AJMAA) members from 31 states and two Canadian provinces, with over 1,600 cattle entries, descended on Grand Island, Neb., this June for the National Junior Heifer Show. Each year, the American Junior Maine-Anjou Association hosts a weeklong event for participants nationwide.  

Alongside the weeklong cattle show and contests, AJMAA youth from all corners of the country campaign to serve on the esteemed AJMAA Board of Directors. 

This 11-member team, elected for two-year terms, serves as the representatives and ambassadors for the breed. They lead the organization and oversee events such as the National Junior Heifer Show, MAINE Youth Leadership Conference, State and National Shows, and other significant industry events nationwide. Serving on the board is a great honor and a stepping stone for future careers, teaching valuable life lessons.

Eleven candidates ran for five open positions in their designated regions this year. Emma Yochum of Hillsboro was elected as an at-large director. Emma was then elected by the junior board to serve as vice president of the AJMAA Board of Directors for the coming year. 

The American Junior Maine-Anjou Association (AJMAA) was founded on September 28, 1980 with 17 members. In the fall of 1978, the first National Junior Heifer Show was held in conjunction with the American Royal, Kansas City, Mo., and two years later the association was formed. From its humble beginnings, the AJMAA has grown to over 2,000 members from all across the United States. The AJMAA focuses on providing leadership and skill-building opportunities through conferences, the National Junior Heifer Show (NJHS), MAINE Leadership Conference, State and National Cattle Shows as well as important industry events.
