Early voting for general election begins Sept. 28

Early voting for the Nov. 2 general election begins Tuesday, Sept. 28, as Ohio opens a 35-day voting period.
"An increasing number of Ohioans have voted absentee, either in person or by mail, since the state adopted "no-fault" absentee voting in 2005," The Columbus Dispatch said. "Elections officials have been pushing early voting not only as a convenience for voters but as a way to ease congestion at the polls on Election Day."
The Highland County Board of Elections reminds citizens of Highland County that the deadline for registering to vote in the general election to be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 is Monday, Oct. 4. This deadline is for those people who have never registered before.
The Board of Elections office will be open on Oct. 4 from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. The Board office is located at 1575 N. High St., Suite 200, Hillsboro.
The office also wants to remind anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot that a request for such a ballot must be filed with the Board office for each separate election. Absentee ballots will be mailed for the November general election beginning Sept. 28, for those who have applications. The last day for an absentee ballot to be mailed will be Saturday, Oct. 30. Voters are encouraged to get their applications in early.
A voter may also cast an early absentee ballot in person by coming to the Board of Elections office and voting at that site. Early voting will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 28 and will continue through Monday, Nov. 1. Office hours will be: Mondays, 8:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
