Dr. Steve Iseman earns East Central District Platinum Award

The East Central District Board of Directors of the Public Relations Society of America has announced that Dr. Steve Iseman is the recipient of the 2011 East Central District Platinum Award.
The Platinum Award recognizes outstanding professional service on the part of district PRSA members. The award is named after former national PRSA Board Member, ECD PRSA Chair and Detroit PRSA Chapter President Donald P. Durocher. In his memory, the district board recognizes a practitioner who has achieved a distinguished service record and "someone who can be clearly identified as a role model for other professionals."
The Public Relations Society of America, headquartered in New York City, is the world’s largest professional organization for public relations professionals, with nearly 20,000 members, organized into 117 chapters nationwide, who represent business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Iseman, a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield, was a professor at Ohio Northern University in Ada who headed the public relations program and advised the ONU PRSSA chapter for 18 years. He retired from ONU in May 2011. Prior to teaching at Ohio Northern he was on the faculty at the Ohio State University and worked in public relations for over 20 years for a variety of organizations.
Last year, Dr. Iseman was recently awarded the Dr. F. H. Teahan Chapter Award for Outstanding Faculty Adviser at the 2011 Public Relations Student Society of America National Conference in Orlando.
Richard Batyko, APR, Fellow PRSA Chair, 2011 ECD Platinum Award Committee, said the Platinum Award is "the highest honor the district can bestow on a member. It acknowledges members whose contributions to the field have made our profession stronger, more effective and enhanced respect for it in the private and nonprofit sectors. This district is truly blessed to have more than its share of outstanding professionals who have been recognized with the Platinum Award since 1996."
The most recent nomination for the award was an easy decision, Batyko said.
"When the nomination from this chapter arrived at ECD, it was pretty much game over," Batyko said. "Thank you to the Central Ohio Chapter for nominating Steve Iseman and making our task so easy. I don’t think I need to recite Steve’s contributions to our field. In fact, if I did, we would conclude this program sometime tomorrow afternoon, Batyko said at the awards ceremony.
Batyko offered a few highlights:
• Steve was the driving force behind Ohio Northern University’s Certification for Education in Public Relations and has served as a reviewer for PRSA’s CEPR program.
• He served on PRSA Educators Academy Board of Directors.
• He has served as the national faculty advisor for PRSSA National co-chair of PRSA’s Educational Affairs Committee.
• He is the 2004 recipient of Walt Seifert Award for Outstand Service of PRSA.
• Ohio Magazine recognized him with an Excellence in Education Award.
• In 2009, Steve was inducted into the Public Relations Society of America’s College of Fellows.
• That year, he was also selected as PRSA’s Outstanding Educator of the Year.
"I have been fortunate to have circulated around PRSA’s national leadership for some years now in my service to the society," Batyko said. "I can tell you that the name Steve Iseman is synonymous there with exemplary professionalism, exceptional knowledge of the art and science of public relations and selfless mentorship. He is simply held in the highest regard.
"Accolades aside, nobody just knows Steve. It’s not possible. You respect him. You’re in awe of his accomplishments, sure. But here’s the best part – you like him. Is he not the nicest guy on earth?!
"Steve, for your contributions to the field and for your mentorship to everyone in this room and thousands more in our profession, it is my high honor and distinct pleasure on behalf of my fellow board members to present you with the 2011 East Central District Platinum Award."
Dr. Iseman holds the Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio University, the Master of Education from Xavier University and the Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University. He and his wife, Sue, are the parents of three grown children, S. Dane Iseman, Alissa M. Sterling and Jonathan M. Iseman.
