District 13-J Lions International Club Days proclaimed

Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Jeff Duncan and Tom Horst proclaimed April 30-May 1 as District 13-J Lions International Club Days.
Accepting the proclamation at the April 27 commission meeting were District 13-J Governor Charles Newland and Wilmington Lions Club member Gary DeFayette.
The District 13-J convention will be held at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center on Saturday, April 30. The luncheon will begin at 11 a.m.
Newland told commissioners that District 13-J includes Highland County and 13 other counties as part of the Lions Clubs’ 10 districts in the state, but that will change in 2017.
“This is the last year of District 13-J,” Newland said. “Ohio is going to seven districts.”
Newland also told commissioners that a new Lions Club is forming in Highland County in Liberty Township.
“We haven’t done a good job of reaching out for younger members,” Newland said. “Society has changed. We need younger people and need to get community leaders involved.”
Those in the community who are interested in learning more about Lions Clubs are invited to a meeting at Southern State Community College, room 305, on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
“Lions are about service and what we can do to help others,” Newland said.
