The Highland County Democrats will be serving up hot soup and hot topics at their annual Fall Dinner, Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Hillsboro’s VFW Post, 1000 W. Main Street.

Political activist David Pepper will speak on the consequences of partisan gerrymandering, and Congressional candidate Samantha Meadows will address the importance of rural representation in Washington, D.C.

Dinah Phillips, Highland County Democratic Chair, says, “Good government is everybody’s business. There’s plenty of talk about national politics, but it’s really important for everyone to be informed and aware of the issues that affect us locally. Our speakers have plenty to say about things that matter now and will be even more important in the future. We can all listen and learn.”

A variety of soups, sides and desserts will be offered, and all attendees are invited to stay and bid on the auction items to be sold at the end of the evening.

The VFW is behind Dairy Queen on West Main Street and has plenty of parking. Everyone interested in learning more, getting involved or meeting either of the evening’s speakers is invited and welcome.
