State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger reportedly is the leading candidate to become the next Ohio House speaker after striking a deal with Wooster Republican and rival State Rep. Ron Amstutz, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Amstutz would become speaker pro tem, the House's number-two leadership spot, by offering support for the Clarksville Republican.

House Republicans won't vote on a new speaker until after the November election.

Rosenberger is currently serving his second term at the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 91st House District, which includes Clinton, Highland and Pike counties, and parts of Ross County.
