David Daniels to serve as keynote speaker at Maysville Community and Technical College

Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David T. Daniels will keynote the seventh annual Farm and Family Night being held at Maysville Community and Technical College, Maysville Campus on Tuesday, March 8. All families and community members are invited to hear Director Daniels speak, beginning at 6 p.m., as part of the annual event.

Director Daniels was appointed Ohio Agriculture Director by Gov. John R. Kasich on Feb. 15, 2012. He is a native of Greenfield, where he was born and raised, and where he and his family managed Daniels Brothers farm. Director Daniels brings the perspective of a family farmer, small businessman and local government official to the department.

Farm and Family Night begins with dinner at 5 p.m. Farm Credit Services of Mid-America is the title sponsor for the event. Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC), the local UK Cooperative Extensions, Ohio State University, Kentucky Farm Bureau and the Maysville-Mason County Chamber of Commerce are offering the event.

In addition to the keynote presentation, participants will get to choose from 60 concurrent sessions on farm and home including cattle, rotational grazing, genetically engineered crops, using drones for agriculture, beekeeping, organic gardening, horticulture, cooking, health and nutrition and more. Early bird sessions will be from 5:15-5:45 p.m. and will include cardiac signs and symptoms, perennial gardening, biodegradable mulches as well as several other topics.

Youth-focused sessions such as robotics in farming and livestock extravaganza will also be featured. “Parent and Child” classes will be available for children 2-6 years of age. Health screenings will be offered to participants by MCTC Nursing Students and over 50 exhibitors will be on display.

The grand prize at this year’s event will be a Yeti cooler. You must be present to win.

A baked spaghetti dinner will be provided from 5-7 p.m. Due to limited seating, participants will need a ticket for dinner. Tickets may be picked up at the Adams, Bracken, Brown, Clermont, Fleming, Highland, Lewis, Mason and Robertson County Extension Offices. Tickets are also available at the Maysville-Mason County Chamber Office as well as the Maysville Campus of MCTC located at 1755 U.S. Hwy. 68 in Maysville and most sponsors.
