The Highland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau Board of Trustees has pared down the pool of applicants for the CVB's executive director's position to five people.

CVB secretary/treasurer Kathryn Hapner said that the board met Monday at the Highland County Senior Center, and entered into executive session for just over one hour to discuss the hiring of a director.

Hapner said those present included board president Kirby Ellison, and members Betty Bishop, Ron Current, Suzanne Hopkins, Sharon Hughes and Bob Lambert.

The board had previously stated that Current and Lambert had applied for the position and could not participate in discussions on hiring. Current had previously stated he considered withdrawing his application, but Hapner said he had not formally done so.

Bishop said that board narrowed down the pool of approximately 15 applicants to five people, and interviews will be conducted in the next week.

Prior to entering into executive session the board changed the CVB statutory officer to Hapner, she said. It had previously been former CVB director Sara Lukens.

Hapner said the board also decided to promote a bass angler tournament at Rocky Fork Lake, and had discussion on participating in some way in a nationwide movement that will take place over the next four and a half year commemorating the Civil War.
