With a break from the heat and some scattered showers, the 2011 Highland County Fair kicked off over Labor Day weekend.

Seniors and Veterans received free admission Monday, and veterans were honored with a program by the Highland County Honor Guard.

On Wednesday, all fairgoers can receive free admission until noon, with ride stamps $5.

Highland County Fair Board President Dave Stratton said that if the rain stays away, he hopes this week's cooler temperatures will bring out some larger crowds.
