Crash causes Hillsboro power outage

Many Hillsboro residents experienced power and cable outages Tuesday afternoon when a delivery truck allegedly backed into an electric pole, causing a transformer to explode, according to reports.

  According to the Hillsboro Police Department, just before 4 p.m. Tuesday the department received a call reporting that a Dell computer delivery truck, in the area of Clark Family Dentistry in the 600 block of South High Street in Hillsboro, had backed into a pole. The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle to examine the damage, and then left. 

A witness at the scene told The Highland County Press that sparks could be seen coming from the transformer following the crash. 

American Electric Power was called to the scene, and to the 500 block of South West Street, to repair damages. 

Several traffic lights were not functional following the incident, and the Hillsboro Street Department put out stop signs at intersections. 

Services were restored to the area around 6 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hillsboro Police Department.
