Court holds hearing in aggravated robbery, breaking and entering cases

A Hillsboro man charged with breaking and entering has pleaded guilty to the indictment in Highland County Common Pleas Court. 

 

Cody Patton was indicted in November on one count of breaking and entering, and one count of receiving stolen property, both felonies of the fifth degree. 

 

He had been scheduled to stand trial Jan. 9. Patton appeared in court Wednesday for a final pretrial before Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss. 

 

Patton's attorney, Lee Koogler, will argue sentencing with Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins during a sentencing hearing scheduled for Jan. 19. 

 

In an unrelated case in court Wednesday, a Greenfield man charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery asked for a reduction in bond. 

 

Chad Bates was indicted in November on count of aggravated robbery. He was arrested on Dec. 6 and held at the Highland County Justice Center on $20,000 bond. 

 

The court appointed attorney Lee Koogler to represent him, but Koogler subsequently had to withdraw. The court appointed attorney J.D. Wagoner to represent him. Wednesday in court, Wagoner asked that bond be reduced, which the state, represented by Collins opposed. The court denied the change in bond. 

 

He is scheduled for trial Jan. 12.
