Corvac Composites LLC celebrates grand opening June 16

The Highland County Board of Commissioners announced at their June 15 meeting that Corvac Composites LLC will be celebrating its grand opening from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in Greenfield.

"They are open, and they are shipping product," Commission President Shane Wilkin said. "They are sending new employees to plants in Michigan and in Morgantown, Ky. for training. A new process also is being introduced in Greenfield. It's a good thing for our area."

Wilkin said Corvac has brought 175 jobs to Greenfield at its North Washington Street facility. Last year, Corvac Composites purchased the former RR Donnelley building in Greenfield.

Corvac is a leading supplier of plastic components to major automotive manufacturers. According to its website, with 30 years of experience, Corvac Composites has become a leader in bringing thermoform manufacturing into the realm of high-volume automotive applications. Different from injection molding, the Corvac ProcessTM utilizes a single side mold and vacuum to create the product shape.

• Wilkin also announced that the county held its first manufacturers' roundtable at Buckeye Hills Country Club on June 2. A second roundtable will be held July 14 and hosted by Johnson Controls Plant Manager Todd Bruno.

The objective is to open communications in an effort to strengthen local manufacturing.

Commissioner Jeff Duncan provided an update on the county's progress for finding a new recycling coordinator.

He had a follow-up meeting with the Highland Soil and Water Conservation District as a possible option for oversight of the local recycling program. In addition, a potential candidate for the position has been interviewed.

"Soil and Water is interested, and we would contract with them," Duncan said. "It's been done in one or two other counties. The Soil and Water Board would make the ultimate decision (on personnel), and the grant money would pass through our general fund. It's still a work in progress."

Duncan also made a motion to accept a bid of $6,500 from Landscapes and Outer Spaces in Hillsboro for landscaping work at the Hi-TEC Center. He said the county also had a bid of $6,464.75 from Lowell's Landscapes in Hillsboro.

"It looks like we get a little more from Landscapes and Outer Spaces, and I would move to accept that bid," Duncan said.

Commissioner Tom Horst seconded the motion, and it passed, 3-0.

Horst announced the county parking lot adjacent to the Hillsboro FOE Aerie 1161 will be resurfaced over the June 18-19 weekend.

"I contacted the Eagles and let them know the lot will be closed this weekend," Horst said.

Highland County Health Commissioner Jared Warner reported that his department has met with the Highland County Sheriff's Office and will be providing 15 kits for Naloxone, an opiate antidote, to deputies.

"We met with deputies for training, and we're in the process of rolling this out to law enforcement," Warner told commissioners. "Right now, it's just for the sheriff's office. The next step is to reach out to the city police departments."

Warner also mentioned that his department has received a $297,000 grant for household sewerage system repairs. The repair money will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to Highland County residents, he said.

Resolutions

Commissioners approved the following resolutions, each by a 3-0 vote:

• A request from Highland County Job and Family Services for a reimbursement of funds from CSEA Administrative Account to Public Assistance in the amount of $7,447.51 for shared cost distribution for May 2016.

• A resolution to appropriate funds within the Child Emergency Fund, Transfers Out in the amount of $600,000 and a transfer from Child Emergency Fund to Children Services in the amount of $200,000.

• A request from Probation for a budget modification within the PSI Writing.

• A request from the Engineer for additional appropriation from unappropriated funds to the Engineers, Contacts & Services in the amount of $6,650.

• A request from the Engineer for a modification within the Engineer’s Budget from Laborers-Salary to Other Expense in the amount of $50,000.

• A request from Veterans Services for a budget modification within the Veterans Budget.

• A resolution for additional appropriation from unappropriated funds to Leesburg Industrial, Transfers Out in the amount of $14,637.69 and a transfer from Leesburg Industrial, Transfers Out to County in the amount of $14,637.69.

• A request from the Engineer to obtain two 2017 Western Star SB Tandem Axles with DD13 from Fyda Freightliner.
