The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wilmington Post, is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Clarksville Road within the intersection of Cowan Creek Road, Clinton County, Township of Vernon, on Aug. 19, 2010 at approximately 7:40 a.m.
A 1999 Ford four-door, driven by Kathryn R. Baessler, 24, of Clarksville, was stopped at a stop sign on Cowan Creek Road.
A 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup was northeastbound on Clarksville Road, being driven by Brandon L. Ford, 30, of Clarksville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Baessler failed to yield from a stop sign and pulled into the path of Ford's vehicle. Ford was unable to stop and struck Baessler's vehicle in the driver's side door. Ford's vehicle continued off the right side of the roadway and into a field. Baessler's vehicle rotated and struck a guardrail, coming to rest in the southwestbound lane of Clarksville Road.
Baessler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clinton County Coroner's Office.
Ford was transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
