City of Hillsboro issues proclamation for Buddy Poppy Week

Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings issued a proclamation recognizing the week of May 3-9 as "Buddy Poppy Week," Thursday afternoon in the Hillsboro City Building.

Hillsboro Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9094 Quartermaster David Pinney and Commander Rick Wilkin accepted the proclamation in the mayor’s office.

This year’s proclamation "urges all citizens to acknowledge the significance, good will and importance the VFW holds in our fair city and encourages all citizens to wear a Buddy Poppy as mute evidence of our gratitude to the men and women of this country who have risked their lives in defense of the freedoms which we continue to enjoy as American citizens.”

Buddy Poppies, which “honor the dead by helping the living,” will be available by donation at a number of locations, including Kroger, Community Markets, VFW Post 9094 and the city of Hillsboro building.

According to VFW Post 9094 representatives, all funds raised from the sale of Buddy Poppies will be used to help local veterans.
