Slide project In Brown County slated for construction
The Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2010 construction season is in full swing, and operations for a slip repair project on state Route 221 in Brown will get under way this month.
“As part of a very active construction program in Brown County, this slip repair is just one of the 11 preservation, safety and enhancement projects
in which we are investing more than $12 million to preserve our infrastructure and improve our network of highways and bridges,” said District 9 Deputy Director James A. Brushart.
According to Brushart, crews from Coopers Excavating will close the route between U.S. Route 52 at Higginsport and state Route 125 at Georgetown to repair the slide and stabilize the embankment. The route will be closed at the 4.42-mile marker, which is midway between Georgetown and Higginsport, on
Monday, June 28, weather permitting.
Coopers Excavating, of Winchester, was awarded a contract in the amount of $384,507.37 to complete the project, and while the route is
closed, motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. Route 52, S.R. 505 and S.R. 125.
The scheduled completion date is Aug. 31.
* In a separate project, traffic will be switched on Monday, June 21, on County Road 24 (Tri-County Highway/Main Street) in Mt. Orab, where
Tri-County Highway is closed to all eastbound traffic as part of a bridge replacement that is under way in the village.
All westbound traffic is being maintained in one lane as crews replace the bridge located immediately west of U.S. Route 68 (High Street), and
eastbound traffic is being detoured via Main Street to County Road 87 (Bodman Road) to state Route 32.
This project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31.
