Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey to visit SSCC's Fayette Campus
Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey will visit Southern State Community College's Fayette Campus in Washington C.H. from 11 a.m.-noon Monday, March 31.
According to SSCC President Dr. Kevin Boys, Carey will be discussing the new two-year funding formula for Ohio community colleges.
The new community college funding formula is currently being discussed in the Ohio Legislature, the Board of Regents said.
The chancellor and others will discuss how the new formula is designed to lead to more college graduates in Ohio and a skilled workforce for high-demand jobs.
President Boys, Southern State students, staff, and faculty will be present for the chancellor's visit.
The Ohio Board of Regents is the state agency that coordinates higher education in Ohio. The agency is directed by its Chancellor, who is a member of the Governor of Ohio's cabinet. The Chancellor, with the advice of the nine-member Board of Regents, provides policy guidance to the Governor and the Ohio General Assembly, advocates for the University System of Ohio and carries out state higher education policy.
John Carey served nine years in the Ohio House of Representatives and eight years in the Ohio Senate. He represented Highland County in the General Assembly.
Carey is one of the few legislators in history to serve as chairman of both the House Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance and Financial Institutions Committee. Prior to his work as a legislator, Carey was mayor of the city of Wellston and was an aide to former Congressman Clarence Miller of Lancaster. He also served as Assistant to the President for Government Relations and Strategic Initiatives for Shawnee State University in Portsmouth.
