Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings joined staff and residents of Bell Gardens Place on Tuesday morning in recognition of National Assisted Living Week.

Bell Gardens Place, located at 251 Harry Sauner Road, provides assisted living, respite care, short-term stays and urgent placement, with a full-time registered nurse on staff 24 hours a day.

Hastings read a proclamation in front of Bell Gardens Place residents, marking Sept. 13-19 as National Assisted Living Week in the city of Hillsboro.

“Assisted living is a critical longterm care service for the elderly and individuals with disabled,” Hastings said in the proclamation. “It fosters choice, dignity and independence.”

Hastings said that he “encourages all citizens to volunteer in an assisted living community” as well as to visit loved ones who live in such facilities.

“We need to think about assisted living all the time,” Hastings said.

This year’s theme for National Assisted Living Week is “Nourishing Life: Mind, Body, Spirit.”

“This theme celebrates the countless ways assisted living caregivers nurture the whole resident,” according to the National Center for Assisted Living. “Communities across the country work each and every day to ensure that the lives of their residents are fully nourished in each and every way.

“Conversely, residents nourish the lives of team members and volunteers by, with the support of loved ones, sharing their inspiring lives.”
