Belfast Pike shooting leaves one in reportedly critical condition

The Hillsboro Police Department is currently investigating a shooting in the area of Belfast Pike, which left one person in what emergency personnel are calling critical condition.

According to Officer Todd Whited of the HPD, a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. reported to the dispatch center that there had been a shooting in the 60 block of Belfast Pike. 

"When we arrived on scene we found a male subject with a gunshot wound," Whited said. 

Whited said that the HPD was still processing the scene Wednesday evening, and that they were treating it as a crime scene. He said that he could not say if the shooting seemed to be accidental or intentional. Whited did not say what type of firearm was used, or if the caller had witnessed the incident.

"We are still gathering and collecting evidence," Whited said. "It is going to be a while."

Capt. Dirk Puckett, of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said that the EMS got called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. The victim was transported to Highland District Hospital, and was later taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley in Dayton. 

Regarding the victim's condition, Puckett said, "With my experience, I would classify him as critical, due to the injuries."
