Battistelli opens Festival concert series

Christian singer-songwriter and two-time Dove Female Vocalist of the Year Award winner Francesca Battistelli opened the three-day series of concerts at the 2014 Festival of the Bells, Thursday night, to a large crowd of fans and representatives from a number of local churches.

Battistelli's show marks the ninth annual Christian opening act organized by the Hillsboro Ministerial Association for the Festival.

Battistelli opened the show with "Write Your Story," the debut single from her third album, "If We're Honest," which was released to critical and commercial acclaim on April 22.

A large crowd enjoyed the beautiful, mild weather and the upbeat concert Thursday evening.

Crowds also enjoyed the annual Festival of the Bells parade Thursday evening, sponsored by the Highland County Firefighters Association, All-American Fire Equipment and Pike Natural Gas. Brian Vance served as emcee for the parade.

Events set for Friday, July 4 include the inaugural Tug of War Tournament, which will begin at 10 a.m.; children and adult tractor pulls at 6 p.m.; and concerts from Frankie Ballard (7 p.m.) and headliner Eric Paslay (9 p.m.)
