Ayres passes board gavel to Wilson at trustees' first meeting of 2012

Outgoing chairman of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees Kay Ayres presented the gavel to 2012 chair Dr. Vicki Wilson Sunday afternoon, during the board's inaugural meeting of 2012.
Wilson thanked Ayres for her service and leadership and honored the former chairman with a plaque in recognition of her service to the college.
Trustees in attendance included Wilson and Leilani Popp of Clinton County, Don Moore and Douglas Boedeker of Fayette County, Ayres and Michelle Cimis of Highland County, Paul Hall of Brown County, and Rory Ryan and Larry Anderson of Adams County. SSCC President Dr. Kevin Boys also attended the meeting, scheduled for Jan. 22-23 at the Murphin Ridge Inn.
After the gavel-passing ceremony, Boys and the trustees traveled to the West Union Industrial Park and met with West Union Mayor Ted Grooms, council members Jason Buda and Steve Rothwell, and fire chief Jerry Kirker.
West Union invited the college to look at property in the industrial park for possible consideration of a college campus in Adams County.
Last November, the board accepted an option for a donation agreement for 19 acres of property for an Adams County campus. However, the board moved forward to approve funding a new Brown County campus in Mount Orab, while the Adams County campus is still under consideration.
The Adams County property, offered as a donation by John Condon and Kent Gulley, is located at Moore's Road and Medical Center Drive, in close proximity to North Adams High School, Adams County Regional Medical Center, the Adams County Cancer Center, the Moore's Road Business Park and the Seaman Dialysis Center.
Boys said at the Jan. 22 meeting the college remains committed to building a campus in Adams County. The board took no action on the matter.
Trustees also received a performance review and self-evaluation from the president.

• Academic re-organization;
• Faculty contract negotiations;
• Additional academic programs;
• The development of a new Board of Trustees' policy manual;
• Expansion of the Ohio Post-Secondary Enrollment Option Program; and,
• The implementation of a long-range strategic vision for the college.
Boys acknowledged the efforts of his administrative staff, faculty and college employees in putting these plans in place.
Trustees were continuing their meeting on Jan. 23 with an executive session to consider compensation and employment of public employees.
