Area roadways flooded, impassable; motorists advised to use caution

Several area roadways in Concord and Jackson Townships in southern Highland County and in Scott Township in Adams County are impassable at this time.
A flash flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for southeastern Highland County until at least 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, especially near Belfast, where as much as 2.5 inches of rain has reportedly fallen.
Marshall, Belfast, Sinking Spring, Berrysville and state Route 73 near Belfast, as well as Seaman, Winchester and Cynthiana, are among the affected areas, according to the NWS.

Northern Brown County is also under a flood warning this afternoon, with Buford, Mount Orab and Sardinia among the areas under a warning until at least 4:15 p.m.
State Route 247, between Fairfax and Folsom, just north of Union Road, was closed for approximately 30 minutes due to a large tree fallen across the road. Crews from ODOT District 9 were on the scene and cleared the roadway as of 1:45 p.m.
Sections of Peach Orchard Road in Jackson Township, as well as Walker Road in Concord Township, were underwater and impassable as of 2 p.m.
The area of state Route 785 and Burgess Road was also reportedly washed out.
Motorists in southern Highland and northern Adams counties are advised to exercise caution. Low-lying areas could be hazardous in these three townships.
According to the National Weather Service, more deaths occur each year due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water. The next highest percentage of flood-related deaths is due to walking into or near flood waters.
A mere six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters.
