Annual 'Shop with a Cop' event held in Hillsboro

Nearly 100 policemen, children and chaperones participated in the annual “Shop with a Cop” event Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to shopping for Christmas gifts for themselves and their families, area children were treated to a trip to Star Cinemas to play arcade games and watch a movie.

The 95 policemen, children and chaperones participating in the event enjoyed breakfast at Country Inn in Mount Orab, lunch at the Hillsboro Dakota’s and were scheduled to eat dinner at the Mount Orab LaRosa’s Pizza. According to Dakota’s manager Anita Goodman, the children also received coupons for a free kids meal and will be receiving a letter from Santa.
Mount Orab Police Officer Mike Dearing oversaw the event, which included participants from the Hillsboro, Aberdeen, Ripley, Georgetown, Fayetteville, Sardinia, Russellville, Hamersville, Lake Waynoka and Mount Orab police departments, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
An estimated $20,000 was expected to be spent on the local families participating in the program.
