AFL-CIO releases largest mailing to union members as Ohio Labor 2010 Program moves into 'get-out-the-vote mode'
With only eight days until Election Day and races tight in Ohio and across the country, the AFL-CIO released its final round of mail to union members today as the Ohio Labor 2010 program shifts into get-out-the-vote efforts. The GOTV mailing is the largest mailing to union members of the election, with 10 million pieces going out to union members in states across the country.
The mailing includes a "slate card" that provides union members with the details on who the Ohio AFL-CIO has endorsed for all of the state-wide candidates, their congressional district, and their state legislative district, according to a news release from Andy Richards of the AFL-CIO.
It also includes information on how to find details about their polling location and any documentation required by the Board of Elections to bring to the polls.
Ohio working families will also receive one of two letters from AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka this week, outlining the stakes workers face in this election, the news release said. "The letters highlight the influx of massive amounts of corporate money, much of it from foreign companies, being injected into this year’s election and the choice union members face at the ballot box," the release said.
The mailers are part the Ohio Labor 2010 program and a nationwide mail effort by the AFL-CIO that hits the mailboxes of 10 million union members, including hundreds of thousands in Ohio, this week.
The mailings are a prelude to the launch of the Ohio Labor 2010 program’s GOTV efforts later this week. Throughout this week, thousands of union members will participate in daily walks, phone banking and worksite leaflets in more than seventeen cities across the state leading up to the official launch of the largest non-party GOTV efforts in the state on Saturday.
Walks and phone banking will be conducted in Akron, Athens, Canton, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Hamilton, Lima, Lorain, Mansfield, Mentor, Niles, Newark, Portsmouth, Reno, Rossford, and Vandalia.

workplace, and to achieve social justice for all Ohioans.
