There will be a community celebration for the opening of Carlisle Building on Monday, Oct. 19 at noon in downtown Chillicothe, on the corner of Main and Paint streets.

Built in 1885, the historic Carlisle Building has been an anchor for downtown Chillicothe.

In April 2003, the building was nearly destroyed by arson. In the years that have followed, the future of the building was often discussed, with demolition considered numerous times.

It wasn’t until 2012, when Adena Health System, The Chesler Group and the City of Chillicothe announced a plan to renovate the 32,000-square-foot building to house Adena’s visiting medical students and physician residents.

Construction began in the summer of 2014, led by Cleveland developer Michael Chesler. Today, the Carlisle Building is again a living landmark in the center of Chillicothe’s downtown that includes 32 student apartments and first-floor office space.

Adena Health System will host a grand opening celebration to mark the re-opening of the historic Carlisle Building. A brief program will begin at noon, followed by a ribbon-cutting and public tour until 2 p.m.

Speakers scheduled include: Adena President & CEO Mark Shuter; Chillicothe Mayor Jack Everson; Carlisle Owner/Developer Michael Chesler; JobsOhio Senior Managing Director Kristi Tanner; and Chillicothe Chamber President Randy Davies.
