AAAR Council honors Ken Cumberland and Ron Rockhold

Hillsboro residents W. Kenneth Cumberland and Ronald E. Rockhold were honored as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Saturday at the 2013 African American Awareness Research Council's Black History Month program.

Mr. Cumberland is a recently retired Hillsboro Police Captain. Mr. Rockhold is a noted local fast-pitch softball pitcher and basketball player.

Each February, the council – in conjunction with the Highland County District Library – presents a program to honor the lifetime achievements of a Highland County resident or to highlight an aspect of this local community's history. This year’s program was held Feb. 16 at the Hillsboro Public Library.

Darren Cole presented the Lifetime Achievement Medal to Mr. Cumberland and Aaliyah Render presented the Lifetime Achievement Medal to her great-grandfather, Mr. Rockhold.
