AAA7 to observe 9-11 moment of silence - others encouraged to participate

In observance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks, the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) will engage in a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. As the September 11th anniversary falls on a Sunday, when the AAA7 office sites are not open, the agency selected the ninth day of September at 11 a.m. to represent the “9” and “11.”
The moment of silence will take place internally at each of the AAA7’s district office sites in Rio Grande, Portsmouth, Waverly and West Union. The AAA7 encourages other businesses and individuals to join them in their own individual location to observe the moment of silence within their own organization or agency.
“In an office setting with co-workers you deal with and see each day, these types of observances are so important for staff in order to join together to reflect on situations and events that have affected so many in this country,” stated Pam Matura, executive director of the Area Agency on Aging District 7.
“The Tragedy of 9-11 is one of those moments that affected each of us on different levels. It is important for our Agency to take the time for reflection, and we hope others join us in their own individual way.”
During the observance, staff at the AAA7 will take some time to reflect on the anniversary with a short poem reading followed by a moment of silence.

These services are available to help older adults and those with disabilities live safely and independently in their own homes through services paid for by Medicare, Medicaid, other federal and state resources, as well as private pay. The AAA7’s Resource Center is also available to anyone in the community looking for information or assistance with long-term care options.
